Focus… and the Reason Tony Robbins Spit on Me

Focus… and the Reason Tony Robbins Spit on Me

I’ve always struggled with focus. It’s a mixed blessing, because all my best creativity flows out of this weakness.

Yet what you and I choose to focus on determines our destiny….to our glory or to our destruction.

I remember vividly hearing about a famous National Geographic photographer. This man would often go to remote areas of 3rd world countries and take incredible pictures of impoverished lands and people.

He was asked, “how do you take such amazing photographs?” He responded, “When I get to my destination, I drop my bags and equipment and ask ‘What is right and good here?”

Can you imagine most Americans? No running water. Flies on the meat at the market. Horrific sanitation…on and on…

Yet this man had the wisdom to choose what he focused on. And that he captured in his art.

A man who has taught me a lot about FOCUS is Tony Robbins.

He is a master in the mindset and psychology realms and that is the main reason I attended his Business Mastery Seminar in Las Vegas about 8 years ago.

(In case you’ve never heard of him, Tony is considered one of the most influential people in the whole world.

He has been the leading motivational speaker for decades, speaking to millions all over the world at live events. Best selling author of many books as well.)

And this dude spit on me…which I will detail in a sec…

Tony would shout out true phrases like:

Focus on where you want to go! (not what you are afraid of!)

Fear is a habit, so is courage…focus on the stepping out in faith part!

What are you going to focus on!

Where your focus goes, your energy flows!

Focus on what empowers you!

Are you focusing more on what you have in life than what you are missing? (lead with gratitude, not discontent)

Do you tend to focus more on what you can or can’t control?!

Do you spend more time focusing on the past, the present or the future?

I don’t agree with everything about Tony, but he is the most passionate and influential person I’ve ever been around (by far).

His 5 day, 14 hours per day Immersion into the psychology of business was an amazing experience!

With over 2000 in attendance, I sat in the front row of about 100 rows. I never sit in the front row, but the dentist business owner I sat next to insisted I join a group he met that always showed up early in the morning.

So I sat front row every day. And when Tony gets rolling, his passion flows like no other for about 7 of the 14 hours. He would often come off the stage and yell out his stories right in front of me.

Twice, he stood less than one foot in front of me, and he would be preachin his stuff so much that I’d be seeing little specks of spit coming out his mouth.

I’d be like, “Wow, Tony Robbins is spitting on me!”

PSS. At this stage of my life…with my mission…my life’s work…my purpose, I need to be very wise in how I fight moving forward. I identify very deeply as a fighter, yet often a distracted one.

I don’t know who wrote the following…I grabbed it off social media years ago…but I hope it impacts you the way it does for me right now…

I once asked a very successful woman to share her secret with me. She smiled and said to me..

“I started succeeding when I started leaving small fights for small fighters.

I stopped fighting those who gossiped about me…

I stopped fighting with my in laws…

I stopped fighting for attention…

I stopped fighting to meet peoples expectation of me…

I stopped fighting for my rights with inconsiderate people..

I stopped fighting to please everyone…

I stopped fighting to prove they were wrong about me….

I left such fights for those who have nothing else to fight…

And I started fighting for

my vision,

my dreams,

my ideas and

my destiny.

The day I gave up on small fights is the day I started becoming successful & so much more content.”

Some fights are not worth your time….. Choose what you fight for wisely. -Author Unknown

Finally, some great words of wisdom by such a woman of FOCUS, GIVING, and SERVICE!

People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered……Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives….Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and true enemies…Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow…Be good anyway.

Honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable…Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight…Build anyway.

People need help, but may attack you if you try to help them…Help them anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.

It was never between you and them anyway.
