Growing Young: Wrestling Dogs and Other Ground Exercises

Disclaimer: No animals were harmed in the making of the Blue vs Creed wrestling videos posted below… 🙂

I admit it…I love to wrestle with dogs. They like it too!

As you will see in the short videos below, there is a huge difference between me wrestling “Blue”, the golden retriever VS “Creed,” the blue heeler.

But first…

I once heard a famous physical therapist Gray Cook say, “The best PT’s prescribe most of their exercises close to the ground.”

Grey Cook is the guy that NFL teams call in to find out why injuries are too high…what’s wrong with the training.

I had this thought the other day….People say, “I can’t play on the floor with my grandkids (or kids or dog) because I’m too old!”

Actually, you are “too old” because you don’t get down on the floor. See? It’s the exact opposite!

We stop doing youthful activities on the floor and we begin to lose key parts of how our nervous system developed when we were really small.

We are then conditioned to think the stiff, increasingly uncoordinated movements that follow are related to our chronological age.

Upright activities only work well when we have really honed our abilities (our nervous system) close to the ground.

Stress and trauma actually UNDO key neurological developments that we previously gained.

If you do nothing about: 1) the roots of both stress and trauma 2) keeping up with certain primal movements, you can rightly say “I’m old.”

BTW, the Core Reprogramming system I developed most effectively addresses both 1) and 2).

So it’s really our understanding that is off.

That’s probably why I like to wrestle dogs. It make me feel like a kid again…it wakes up the neuro-circuitry of my youth.

Now watch this 36 sec video of me wrestling Blue (age 6)… a super gentle golden retriever who visits our clinic.

(In wrestling, you try to get “back points” and “pin” the opponent. Blue is going to make this pretty easy for me. She is a golden retriever after all!)

Now watch me wrestle our dog Creed. Creed is the opposite dogality of Blue. Blue likes to nap and chill out.

Creed is wired to work (but we no longer have cows), train (lead me on the mountain trails), win (fetch balls…his goal is one hop), and terrorize his fellow outside cats.

He wants no “touchy feely” like Blue. He knows he’s got that wild Australian dingo in him…

I have to do everything here just to coax Creed in. He is lightening quick and aware of my every move. He will never submit or “tap out” as Ellie says at the end of this 60 sec video.

Keep in mind, maybe I didn’t get the back points, but did successfully roll him and score on him, Ellie cut the video too soon 🙂

Exercise concepts I’ve mentioned here and many more like them will be explained in further detail in my upcoming presentations on CRa: tool of the Fountain of Youth and WHY: You MUST Train.

This will enhance your understanding about how you can substantially improve your quality of life in simple ways….methods where you get the greatest ROI (return on your time investment).

Fun Fact: You remember my email on the Miracle on Ice? Do you know what was the greatest upset in Olympic Wrestling History?

Rulond Gardner (USA) beat the most dominate Russian in history by one point to win the heavyweight gold medal! During this match, the Russian had already won 3 Olympic golds and was undefeated!

Watch it here… remember, Wyoming native Rulond does the cartwheel after the match…

Fun Fact #2: Do you know who pulled off arguably the greatest upset in Montana high school wrestling history?

Our very own Sydney Sheridan’s father! In 1988, James Sheridan of Capital High beat Dan Troupe of Flathead High to win the state championship! Dan would go on to take 4rth in the nation at Iowa State.

Fun Fact #3: Kelly always wanted a golden retriever. I always wanted a blue heeler. So after our mixed cow dog Trixie died, I kinda got my way once I got Gabe sold on blue heelers…and Kelly just couldn’t say no to her son Gabe 🙂
